Scope: This standard specifies the method for indentation testing of single-layer or multi-layer coatings of paints, varnishes or related products using a Buchholz indentation instrument. The length of the indentation produced indicates the degree of residual deformation of the coating film. This indentation test is not applicable to products containing tougheners. Note: This test is the same as other coating physical tests. The measurement results are related to time, temperature and humidity. Comparable results can only be obtained when the test is conducted under specified conditions. Note 2: Since the indentation brilliance depends on the paint film thickness, the obtained indentation length is valid only when the paint film thickness exceeds the specified minimum paint film thickness.
