This part of JB/T 5000 specifies the ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, magnetic particle testing and penetrant testing of steel castings and their corresponding quality levels. This section applies to steel castings for heavy machinery. Among them, ultrasonic testing is suitable for carbon steel and low alloy steel castings with a thickness of not less than 3Omm: it is not suitable for austenitic steel castings. Radiographic testing is suitable for steel castings with a thickness of 5mm to 300mm. Magnetic particle testing is suitable for the inspection of surface and near-surface defects of ferritic steel castings. Penetrant testing is suitable for the inspection of opening defects on the surface of steel castings. Where the non-destructive testing methods specified in this part are used, the testing method, location, depth range and quality level should be indicated in the product drawings, technical documents and ordering technical conditions.
