The eddy current testing technology defined in this standard is mainly used for the detection of surface openings and near-surface defects of ferromagnetic materials (welds, heat-affected zones, base materials). If required by design specifications, this standard can also be used for testing of stainless steel and other metal structural materials. This standard is applicable to the testing of exposed or coated steel structural materials during onshore and offshore manufacturing, installation and use. Testing can be performed on all accessible weld surfaces of all types. Generally, this standard applies to the natural conditions formed on the weld surface after welding. But very rough surfaces can affect detection results.
