This standard specifies a test method for determining the adhesion of single-coat or multi-coat systems of paints, varnishes or related products by performing a pull-away adhesion test. This standard is effective for comparing the adhesion of different coatings. It is more useful to provide relative ratings for a series of painted test panels with significant differences in adhesion. This standard applies to a variety of substrates, and different steps are required for different types of substrates. Deformable substrates, such as thin metals, plastics, and wood; rigid substrates, such as thick concrete slabs and metal panels. For certain applications, coatings can be prepared directly on the test column surface.
