This specification covers a corrosion and heat resistant steel in the form of bars, wire, forgings, and forging stock. These products have been used typically for nuts and other parts requiring both corrosion and heat resistance up to 1500 °F (816 °C), but usage is not limited to such applications. At comparable elevated temperatures, the strength of this steel is slightly higher than, and the oxidation resistance is similar to, 18Cr - 8Ni type steels. It is not recommended for use when welding is involved.
