Scope
This standard specifies the requirements and procedures for explosion testing of civil aircraft airborne equipment that comes into contact with flammable liquids or their vapors. It is an integral part of the "Environmental Conditions and Test Methods for Civil Aircraft Airborne Equipment" series of standards. The explosion test is to check the ability of airborne equipment to work in flammable gases without causing an explosion, or to check the ability of the shell of airborne equipment to block explosions and combustion occurring inside it so that it does not spread to the outside of the equipment. This standard applies to equipment on aircraft that may come into contact with flammable liquids or their vapors and that may generate arcs, sparks, or hot surfaces under normal operating or failure conditions. Also suitable for forced air ventilation equipment where the air supply system is contaminated by flammable gases. This standard does not apply to explosive gas environments accidentally generated by leaks of items carried on aircraft (such as luggage or cargo).
