Scope
This standard applies to porcelain or glass disc-shaped suspension insulator string components for AC overhead lines with a nominal voltage higher than 1000V and a frequency not higher than 100Hz. This standard also applies to insulators of similar construction used in substations. This standard applies to both ball-and-socket connections and slot-connected disk-type suspension insulator string elements. This standard applies to overhead line insulator string elements in clean and polluted areas. For areas with severe pollution levels and other special or extreme environmental conditions, it may be necessary to change some dimensions. Insulator elements are available in different creepage distances, construction heights and shapes (e.g. open, hemispherical, etc.). Different sizes may also be required for insulators used in DC systems. In any case, standardized mechanical characteristics and connection dimensions specified in this standard are recommended. This standard specifies the mechanical properties and characteristic values of the main dimensions of disc insulator elements. This standard does not specify the power frequency, lightning impulse and breakdown withstand voltage values of insulator string components. GB/T 1001.1-2003 stipulates the electrical characteristics of insulator string components, and its value should be agreed upon by both parties. GB/T4056-1994 includes ball and socket connections and groove connections.
