This standard specifies two methods for measuring the average fiber diameter (that is, the average value of the actual diameter) in glass fiber products, namely the longitudinal method and the cross-sectional method. This standard applies to cut-to-length fiber yarns and continuous fiber yarns, as well as to the determination of fiber diameters in fabrics or mats. Note 1: The average diameter should not be confused with the nominal diameter. The nominal diameter is used to name the yarn and the material made of these yarns. It is consistent with the rounded value of the average diameter.
