Scope

This standard specifies the calibration method of standard Vickers hardness blocks used for indirect inspection of Vickers hardness testers according to GB/T 4340.2. This method is only applicable to indentations whose diagonal length is not less than 0.020mm. Force values in this standard are converted from kilogram-force (kgf) values. These force values were quoted before the adoption of the International System of Units (SI). The next revision of the International Standard will consider and study the benefits of quoting integer values of test forces in SI units (integer Newtons) and the consequences for the respective hardness scales concerned. At that time, with the changes of international standards, this standard will also be revised accordingly.
