This standard specifies the general requirements, magnetic properties, dimensional tolerances and inspection methods of pure iron, iron-silicon, iron-nickel and iron-cobalt. Materials can be supplied in the form of rods, plates, sheets, strips or wires and correspond to alloy materials specified in IEC 60404-1 magnetic material categories A, C1, C2, E1 to E4 and Fl ± F3. Pure iron and steel, the magnetic materials mainly used in relays, are covered by IEC 60404-8-10. IEC 60404-8-10 has regulations on the magnetic properties of pure iron (Category 8) and iron-silicon (C21, (Category 22)). The terms are not as detailed as those specified in this standard, but give wider dimensional tolerances. Non-oriented and oriented silicon steel (C21 and C22 categories) applied to power frequency are classified according to the specific total loss, and are classified by IEC 60404-8-2 and 1EC 60404. —8-4 and IEC 60404-8-?
