Scope
This standard specifies the conversion method between elongation at break of different gauge lengths at room temperature. It includes conversion formulas and tables of conversion factors for elongation and graphs for making such conversions. This standard applies to hot-rolled, hot-rolled, normalized or annealed, tempered or non-tempered carbon steel and low-alloy steel with a tensile strength in the range of 300-700 MPa. This standard does not apply to cold-rolled (drawn) steel, quenched and tempered steel and austenitic steel. This standard also does not apply to specimens whose original gauge length exceeds 25 (the square root of S0) or whose aspect ratio exceeds 20. When the thickness of the plate sample is less than 4mm, the exponent n in the formula (1) of this standard increases with the decrease of the thickness, and the conversion value of the elongation must be agreed upon by both parties. The conversion method of this standard is adopted internationally, and the conversion within the scope of this standard is reliable, but because there are many factors affecting the elongation determination, whether to use this standard for conversion is determined by the relevant standards or agreements. In case of dispute or arbitration, the elongation value shall be actually measured according to the gauge length stipulated in the relevant standards or agreements.
