This standard specifies the method for determining the average molecular weight (relative molecular mass) of petroleum by measuring the kinematic viscosity of petroleum samples. This standard applies to petroleum samples with a molecular weight in the range of 250 to 700, including common petroleum fractions. It is not suitable for oils with abnormal composition or relatively narrow range of molecular weight (relative molecular mass).
