This document specifies the safety requirements and verification methods for self-propelled industrial telescopic forklifts and telescopic container handlers/reachstackers (hereinafter referred to as "vehicles") as defined in ISO5053 1. Such vehicles are usually equipped with forks or integrated load handling devices (such as container spreaders, etc.) in normal industrial use. This document does not apply to: --- off-road telescopic forklift; --- off-road telescopic container handler; --- machinery designed mainly for earthmoving operations (such as loaders and bulldozers), even if their Buckets and bulldozing blades are replaced by forks; --- machinery that can swing the load freely in all directions. In this document, forks and integral attachments are considered part of the vehicle, while detachable attachments mounted on the carrier or forks are not. However, this document also gives the requirements for these attachments. This document covers all major hazards, hazardous states or hazardous events listed in Appendix B, except for the following situations, when the machinery is used under the manufacturer's intended use and misuse under foreseeable conditions. This document does not cover the dangers that may occur in the following situations: --- During the manufacturing process; --- When used on roads; --- When operating in potentially explosive atmospheres; --- When lifting personnel.
