Scope: This document specifies devices and procedures for determining the potential for corrosion by measuring the acidity (pH) and conductivity of gases released during combustion in aqueous solutions of materials on components of cables or cables. The methods specified in this document are suitable for testing individual components of electrical or optical cables. Formulas are given for calculating weighted values for combinations of materials in electrical or optical cables. This method verifies the relevant requirements for the components in the construction of an electrical or optical cable as specified in the electrical or optical cable standard. The simplified method listed in this document is only to demonstrate that each component meets the specified performance requirements for quality control purposes. Note 1: The relevant cable or fiber optic cable standard should indicate which components of the cable or fiber optic cable should be tested and which calculation method should be used in case of disputes (see Chapter 8). Note 2: This method can be used to test the materials used in the production of electric or optical cables, but it is not appropriate to declare the performance of electric or optical cables based on such a test. Note 3: The term "cable" in this document refers to all cables with insulated metal conductors that transmit energy or signals.
