Scope
1.1 This standard specifies the ultrasonic testing requirements for delamination defects in seamless and welded (except submerged arc welding) steel pipes based on four different acceptance levels. Acceptance level B1 is only applicable to seamless steel pipes used under certain harsh conditions, such as steam headers (see Table 1). Note 1: For welded (except submerged arc welding) steel pipes, ultrasonic inspection standards can also be used to detect delamination defects, that is, in accordance with the provisions of SY/T 6423.5, ultrasonic testing of the steel strips is carried out before the steel pipe is formed. 1.2 This standard is applicable to the testing of steel pipes with a nominal outer diameter greater than 30mm. The lower limit of wall thickness is not specified, see Note 2. Note 2: For steel pipes with a nominal wall thickness less than 5 mm, difficulties may be encountered when using this method to measure and determine the size of defects. When this occurs, negotiations between the purchaser and the manufacturer are required to determine the inspection method to be used and the method for determining the size of the delamination defect.
