This standard specifies the general basic requirements for marine low-voltage contactors and AC motor starters, including terminology, characteristics, normal operating and installation conditions, structural and performance requirements, test methods and inspection rules, etc. This standard applies to low-voltage contactors and AC motor starters for ships or mobile and fixed offshore devices with AC 50Hz or 60Hz in the main circuit and voltage 1000V or DC 1200V and below. This standard does not apply to the following contactors and starters: a. Star-delta starters, rotor rheostat starters and auto-coupling pressure reduction starters for special purposes and continuous operation at the starting position; b. Unbalanced (i.e. The resistance value of each phase is different) rotor rheostat starter; c. Starter used not only for starting but also for speed regulation; d. Liquid starter and "liquid-vapor" starter; e. Semiconductor contactor and starters using semiconductor contactors in the main circuit; f. Stator rheostat starters; g. Special purpose contactors and starters.
