- Scope
- This document specifies additional requirements for the assessment of external conditions of offshore wind turbine sites, as well as basic design requirements to ensure the engineering integrity of fixed offshore wind turbines. Its purpose is to provide an appropriate level of protection during the expected life of the wind turbine to prevent damage to the wind turbine from various hazards. This document focuses on the engineering integrity of the structural components of offshore wind turbines, but also addresses subsystems such as control and protection mechanisms, internal electrical systems, and mechanical systems. An offshore wind turbine is a fixed offshore wind turbine if its supporting structure bears hydrodynamic loads and is fixed to the seabed. The design requirements in this document do not ensure the engineering integrity of floating offshore wind turbines. Refer to IEC61400 3 2 for design requirements of floating offshore wind turbines. Offshore wind turbines mentioned in this document refer to fixed offshore wind power
