- Plastic materials often undergo rapid photochemical degradation under the influence of sunlight, unless they have been stabilized in a durable fashion. An accelerated ageing that simulates the ageing caused by sunlight can be brought about by irradiation with light of the xenon arc type. Strips of the FIBC's loadbearing wall material are subjected for a certain period of time to irradiation from a light source of the xenon type. 1) Approximately equivalent to one year of outdoor exposure in the northern part of Europe. 2) Approximately equivalent to two years of outdoor exposure in the northern part of Europe. A number of factors of uncertainty are inherent in this procedure, so comparisons should be available between the method used and exposure in the environment in which the product is to be used.
