Scope
This International Standard describes a method for the determination of platinum in platinum jewelry alloys, preferably in the range of fineness as specified in ISO 9202. The determination is carried out using optical emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma (ICP-OES, en: inductive coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer). This process is applicable to platinum jewelry alloys, which may contain silver, indium, iridium, gallium, copper, cobalt, nickel, tin and ruthenium. However, this list is not exhaustive and potential interference effects must be examined with caution. This method is intended as a recommended method for determining fineness in alloys up to 990 covered in ISO 9202.
