Scope
This standard provides three methods (Methods A1, B, C1) for measuring the flexibility of rubber and plastic hoses and tubes (measuring the deformation of the hose or tube), as well as the flexibility of rubber and plastic hoses and tubes when bent to a certain radius at room temperature. Two methods (Methods A2 and C2) are specified for measuring the stiffness of a hose or tube by measuring the bending force. Methods A1 and A2 are suitable for rubber and plastic hoses and tubes with an inside diameter of 80 mm or less. Method A1 can be used to measure the flexibility of a hose or tube by measuring the reduction in outside diameter when the hose is compressed between two plates. Method A2 measures the flexibility of a hose or tube to reach a specific bend radius when compressed between two plates. Provides a means of measuring the required force. The test may be performed at a specified internal pressure. Method B is suitable for rubber and plastic hoses and tubes with an inside diameter of 100 mm or less and provides a means of evaluating the behavior of hoses and tubes when bent around a mandrel. The final mandrel diameter used can be selected by the minimum bend radius of the hose or tube. This value is measured by reducing the outside diameter, which can be used as a measure of the flexibility of the hose or tube. The hose or tube to be tested may be unpressurized, pressurized, or vacuumed, with or without bends, if necessary.
