This standard specifies a test based on hardness measurements to determine the stiffness of rubber over time, which is caused by crystallization. Limited to materials having an initial hardness of 10 IRHD to 85 IRHD at the test temperature. This method applies to raw, unvulcanized (compounded) or vulcanized rubber. Rubbers such as chloroprene and natural rubber, which have a pronounced tendency to crystallize at cold ambient temperatures, are of major interest. This method does not apply to fast-crystallizing materials where significant crystallization occurs within the 15-minute interval used for pretreatment at the test temperature.
