This International Standard specifies requirements for the classification of rods and wires for tungsten inert gas welding of unalloyed steels and fine-grain steels with a minimum yield strength of up to 500 MPa or a minimum tensile strength of up to 570 MPa in the welded state and after post-heat treatment. This International Standard contains a common specification for classification either according to the yield strength and the average impact energy of 47 J of the pure weld metal or according to the tensile strength and the average impact energy of 27 J of the pure weld metal. a) Sections and tables marked with a suffix "A" can only be used for bars and wires classified according to the yield strength and the average impact energy of 47 J of the pure weld metal according to this International Standard. b) Sections and tables marked with a suffix "B" can only be used for bars and wires classified according to the tensile strength and the average impact energy of 27 J of the pure weld metal according to this International Standard. c) Sections and tables without a suffix "A" or "B" are applicable to all bars and wires classified according to this International Standard.
