Scope
This part of ISO/TS 21268 specifies a test that provides information on the leaching of soils and soil materials under the experimental conditions specified below and in particular at a liquid/solid ratio of 10 l/kg dry matter. It applies to soils and soil materials with a grain size of less than or equal to 4 mm. This part of ISO/TS 21268 was created to investigate the release of inorganic and organic components from soils and soil materials as well as the ecotoxicological effects of eluates on microorganisms, fauna and flora. The test is not suitable for components that are volatile under ambient conditions. For ecotoxicological testing, see ISO 15799. NOTE 1 Volatile organic components include low molecular weight components in mixtures such as: B. mineral oil. NOTE 2 It is not always possible to optimize test conditions for inorganic and organic components simultaneously, and the optimal test conditions may also differ for different groups of organic components. The testing requirements for organic components are generally more stringent than for inorganic components. The test conditions suitable for measuring the release of organic components are generally also applicable to inorganic components. NOTE 3 Ecotoxicological studies require eluates that reflect the release of both inorganic and organic pollutants. In this document, the ecotoxicological investigation also includes the genotoxicological investigation. The test method specified in this part of ISO/TS 21268 produces eluates which are then characterized physically, chemically and ecotoxicologically according to existing standard methods. This test method is primarily intended to be used for routine and control purposes; it alone is not sufficient to describe all of the leaching properties of a soil. Further leaching testing is required for this expanded objective. This part of ISO/TS 21268 does not address health and safety issues. It is only used to determine the leaching properties shown in Section 4.
