This standard covers laboratory measurements of the heat seal strength (hot tack strength) of a flexible material after a seal has been formed between thermoplastic surfaces before cooling to ambient temperature. This standard is applicable to testing instruments that can automatically heat-seal the sample and quickly determine the hot sealing strength within a precise time after the sealing cycle is completed. This standard does not cover manual procedures using non-instruments such as springs, levers, pulleys and weights. This standard provides two test methods using different hot adhesive strength test instrument parameters.
