Scope
This part of ISO 11268 specifies a method for assessing the habitat function of soils and determining the acute toxicity of soil contaminants and chemicals to Eisenia fetida/Eisenia andrei through skin and dietary intake. The method is applicable to soils and soil materials of unknown quality, e.g. B. come from contaminated, agriculturally influenced or other affected locations, or which involve altered soils, soils after remediation, or waste materials. The effects of substances are evaluated in a standard soil, preferably in a defined artificial soil. For contaminated soils, the effects on survival are determined in the soil to be tested and in a control soil. According to the objective of the study, the control and the substrate used to prepare the dilution series of the contaminated soil should be either an uncontaminated soil comparable to the soil sample to be tested (reference soil) or a standard soil (e.g. artificial soil). This document contains information that will enable this method to be used to test chemicals in both temperate and tropical conditions. The method is not applicable to volatile substances, ie substances for which H (Henry constant) or the air/water partition coefficient is greater than 1, or for which the vapor pressure at 25 °C exceeds 0.013 3 Pa. This procedure does not take into account the possible degradation of the substances or contaminants during testing.
