This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of total alpha and total beta activity in non-saline water by alpha and beta emitting radionuclides. The method is applicable to the analysis of groundwater and drinking water with low levels of dissolved substances. After appropriate adjustment, it can also be used for other types of water. The scope of application depends on the amount of dissolved matter in the water and the performance characteristics (counting rate of the zero effect and counting yield) of the measuring device.
