- Scope
- This International Standard specifies eddy current testing techniques for the detection of surface defects and near-surface crack-like irregularities primarily in ferritic materials (welds, heat affected zone, base metal). Eddy current testing can also be specified for non-ferritic materials, e.g. B. in an application standard. The techniques can be used on coated or uncoated test items during manufacture and operation, onshore and offshore. Eddy current testing can be carried out on all accessible surfaces of welded joints of almost any design. Unless otherwise specified on specific points in this International Standard, the general principles of ISO 15549 apply. NOTE Typically, eddy current testing can be performed in the weld condition. However, the accuracy of the test results can be influenced by very rough surfaces.
