Scope
This paper presents a general method for determining the average molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of polymers (see reference [1]) in a molecular weight range of 2,000 g ⋅ mol−1 to 20,000 g ⋅ mol−1 by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization -FlugzeitMassenspectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). The average molecular weights and molecular weight distributions are calculated using a calibration curve that is created using synthetic and/or biopolymer standards. Therefore, it is a relative method. The process is not applicable for polyolefins or polymers with a polydispersity > 1.2.
