This International Standard specifies a nomenclature system for thermoplastic elastomers based on the chemical composition of the polymer(s) concerned. The standard defines the symbols and abbreviations used to identify thermoplastic elastomers in industry, commerce and government. The aim is not to conflict with existing trade names and (protected) trademarks, but rather to complement them. NOTE 1 In technical documents and presentations, the name of the thermoplastic elastomer should be used followed by the abbreviation used in this International Standard to designate the elastomer. NOTE 2 Appendix A gives abbreviations for thermoplastic elastomers that have been used historically in materials standards, technical bulletins, textbooks, patents and technical literature.
