This International Standard specifies a method for the manual and automatic determination of the flash point of closed-cup flammable liquids whose flash point is between -30.0 °C and 75.0 °C. However, the precision information for this process only applies to the flash point range from -8.5 °C to 75.0 °C. This International Standard is not applicable to water-based paints. NOTE 1 Water-based paints can be tested according to ISO 3679 [3]. NOTE 2 See 9.1 for the importance of this test to avoid loss of volatile components. NOTE 3 Liquids containing halogenated compounds may produce abnormal results. NOTE 4 The thermometer specified for the manual flash point tester limits the upper test temperature to 70.0 °C.
