Scope

This part of is 6508 specifies the test method for normal Rockwell hardness and Rockwell surface hardness (scales and applicable scope according to Table 1) for metallic materials. It applies to stationary and portable hardness testing machines. For specific materials and/or products, other specific International Standards apply (e.g. is 3738-1 and is 4498).
