This standard specifies the rod-axis method and laser scintillation method for determining the thermal conductivity (thermal conductivity) of beryllium oxide ceramic materials. The rod-axis method specified in this standard is suitable for measuring the thermal conductivity of beryllium oxide ceramics at a temperature ranging from 40 °C to 150 °C. This method is also suitable for measuring the thermal conductivity of other low thermal conductivity ceramic materials or ceramic matrix composites within the above temperature range. The laser flash method specified in this standard is suitable for measuring the thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of beryllium oxide ceramic materials with a porosity of less than 10% in the range from room temperature to 1400 °C. This method is also applicable to the measured thermal diffusivity in the above temperature range between 10-7m2/s~10-3m2/s, Thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of other solid materials that are completely homogeneous and opaque to energy pulses; not suitable for measuring inhomogeneous or anisotropic materials.
