This part of ISO 4629 specifies a titrimetric method for determining the hydroxyl value of resins, coating binders, primary alcohols, glycols and fats. The applicability of the process for hydroxy acids, phenolic hydroxyl groups, some polyols such as. B. trimethylolpropane, and for substances with aromatic groups that are activated for Friedel-Crafts acylation, must be checked on a case-by-case basis. If the conditions are adjusted, the method is also suitable for determining the hydroxyl number of castor oil and its derivatives.
