EN ISO 15009:2016 Soil quality - Gas chromatographic determination of the content of volatile aromatic hydrocarbons@ naphthalene and volatile halogenated hydrocarbons - Purge-and-trap method with thermal desorption
This International Standard specifies a quantitative gas chromatographic method for the determination of volatile aromatic hydrocarbons, naphthalene and volatile halogenated hydrocarbons in soil. This International Standard is applicable to all soil types. NOTE In the case of unsaturated peat soils, absorption of the solvent may occur. The lower limit of quantification depends on the testing equipment used and the quality of the methanol used to extract the soil sample. Under the conditions specified in this International Standard, the following limits of quantification (based on dry matter) apply: When using a gas chromatograph with a flame ionization detector (GC-FID), the typical limit of quantification is:
——for volatile aromatic hydrocarbons: 0.1 mg/kg. When using a gas chromatograph with an electron capture detector (GC-ECD), the typical limit of quantification is;
——for volatile halogenated hydrocarbons: 0.01 mg/kg. Lower limits of quantification for some compounds can be achieved by using mass spectrometry (MS) with selective ion detection.
