This International Standard specifies the method for calculating color distances according to the CIEDE2000 formula. This standard applies to input values of CIELAB L*, a*, b* coordinates calculated according to ISO 11664-4:2008(E)/CIE S 014-4/E:2007. This standard may be used to determine the color distance between two color stimuli that are perceived as belonging to a reflecting or transmitting object. This includes displays if they are used to simulate reflecting or transmitting objects and if the color values that represent the color stimuli are appropriately standardized. The standard does not apply to color stimuli that emanate from surfaces that emit light as self-luminous or reflect light through shiny effects.
