- This standard specifies the legend symbols that should be used in the design of process flow diagrams (PFD), process piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and utility system piping and instrumentation diagrams (UID). This standard applies to the process flow diagrams, process piping and instrumentation flow diagrams (P&ID) and utility system piping and process equipment of newly built, expanded and renovated process units in petroleum refining, petrochemicals and coal-based plants that produce fuels and chemical products.
