This part specifies the test procedures for evaluating the voltage durability of the insulation structure of AC and DC rotating electrical machines with formed windings. This test procedure is comparative in nature, that is, the performance of the insulation structure to be evaluated is compared with the performance of the reference insulation structure verified by operating experience. This test procedure is mainly applicable to the insulation structure of air-cooled motors, but it is also applicable to the evaluation of partial insulation structures of hydrogen-cooled motors. Note that IEC/TS 60034-18-42 specifies the identification rules for the insulation structure of formed windings powered by frequency converters.
