- Scope
- This part of ISO 19066 establishes a naming system for thermoplastic methyl methacrylate-acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (MABS) molding compounds that can serve as a basis for specifications. MABS molding compound types are distinguished from one another using a classification system based on suitable value ranges of the characteristic properties: a) Vicat softening temperature; b) melt volume flow rate; c) Charpy impact strength; and d) train module; and is based on information about composition, intended application and/or processing methods, important properties, additives, colorants, fillers and reinforcing agents. This part of ISO 19066 is applicable to all methyl methacrylate-acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene molding compositions with a continuous phase based predominantly on copolymers of styrene (and/or alkyl-substituted styrene), acrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate and a disperse elastomeric phase based on Butadiene. It applies to ready-to-use MABS molding compounds in the form of powder, granules or pellets, not modified or modified with dyes, additives, fillers, etc. It should not be assumed that molding compounds with the same name necessarily have the same performance behavior. This part of ISO 19066 does not contain technical, performance or processing conditions data that may be necessary to specify a molding compound for a particular application and/or processing method. If such additional properties are required, they shall, where possible, be determined in accordance with the test methods specified in ISO 10366-2. To specify a thermoplastic molding compound for a specific application or to ensure reproducible processing, additional requirements can be specified in data block 5 (see 3.1).
