This International Standard provides measures for determining the energy quantities of natural gas through measurement or calculation and describes the techniques and measures required to be used. The calculation of thermal energy is based on the separate measurement of the amount of gas, either as the mass or volume of the gas transferred (at interfaces) and on its measured or calculated calorific value. General measures for calculating uncertainties are also given. Only currently used systems are described. NOTE The use of such systems in commercial or official trade may require approval by national regulatory authorities; and compliance with legal regulations is required. This International Standard applies to all gas measuring systems from end customers in the private sector to very large high-pressure transport systems. New techniques are not excluded provided their demonstrated performance is comparable or superior to the techniques referred to in this International Standard. Gas detection systems are not the subject of this International Standard.
