This International Standard specifies methods for the removal of corrosion products formed during exposure of metal and alloy corrosion specimens to corrosive environments. In this International Standard, the term "metals" refers to pure metals and alloys. The procedures listed are designed to remove all corrosion products without significantly attacking the base metal. This makes it possible to accurately determine the mass loss of the metal that occurs during aging in a corrosive environment. In some cases, these processes can also be used for metallic coatings. However, possible influences from the substrate must be taken into account.
