This International Standard specifies a method for measuring the burst strength of paper by subjecting the sample to increasing hydraulic pressure. It is applicable to paper with burst strengths in a range of 70 kPa to 1400 kPa. The application is not intended for individual components (such as paper, which serve for the corrugated and uncorrugated layers of corrugated cardboard) of multi-layer cardboard. ISO 2759 is more suitable for this procedure. Due to a lack of economic agreement as to which method should be used for which material to be tested, materials with burst strengths below 600 kPa should be tested according to this International Standard.
