KS A ISO 9276-2:2014 Representation of results of particle size analysis — Part 2: Calculation of average particle sizes/diameters and moments from particle size distributions
This standard provides relationships and consistent nomenclature for the calculation of moments, mean particle size, and standard deviation from a given particle size distribution. Describes two commonly used symbol systems. One is the moment method and the other is the moment ratio method. The size distribution can be expressed as a histogram or an analytical function. The diameter corresponding to a particle of arbitrary shape is taken as the size of the particle. Particle shape factors are not considered. It is essential that this measuring technique is specified in the report in terms of the dependence of the results on the size of the measuring principle. The sample of particles being measured is representative of the particle population. Numerical examples of mean particle size and standard deviation calculated from histogram data for both symbolic systems are presented in the appendix. Accuracy of mean particle size when imperfect distributions are evaluated. This can be reduced. Accuracy may also be reduced when a very limited number of size classes are applied.
