Scope
This standard provides general guidelines for the detection and identification of general aerobic mesophilic microbial species present in cosmetics, as well as the detection and identification of specific microorganisms. Microorganisms classified as specific microorganisms in this standard may vary depending on the circumstances or laws of each country. It may vary from country to country. Most specific microorganisms include one or more of the following species: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. To ensure product quality and consumer safety, appropriate microbiological hazard analyzes should be performed to determine which type of microorganism this standard determines. It is recommended to determine whether it can be applied to cosmetics. Products considered to have low microbiological risk include products with low water activity, hydro-alcoholic products, and products with very high or low pH. The methods described in this standard are used to test for microbial contamination. It is based on a detection method that confirms the growth of microorganisms in an appropriate non-selective liquid medium (enrichment liquid medium) and then isolates the microorganisms in a non-selective agar medium. Other methods can be used appropriately depending on the level of detection required. This standard provides specific instructions for the identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. Other microorganisms other than those capable of growing under the conditions described in this standard.
