This standard specifies procedures for measuring porosity in anticorrosive coating systems of all thicknesses applied to steel or other metal substrates. The procedures described in this standard are based on the use of two types of test devices selected according to the dry film thickness. The procedures described in this standard are applicable only to the testing of electrically non-conductive portions of coating systems. The specified test methods are primarily used on new coatings, but may also be used on coatings in service. In the case of a coating film in use, keep in mind that substances that come into contact with the coating film during use have penetrated into the coating film.
