This standard specifies a method for evaluating the resistance of dry films of paints, varnishes or related products to cracking or peeling from the substrate when damaged by a falling weight dropped into a 20 mm diameter spherical indenter under standard conditions. This test method is applicable to the following:
——Pass/fail tests, tests according to specific specifications, where the test is performed at a constant drop height and specified mass. - Grade tests, where the drop height or mass is gradually increased. While doing so, determine the minimum mass or drop height that causes the coating to crack or peel off.
