This standard refers to marine wind vanes and anemometers (hereinafter referred to as “wind speed gauges”) installed on ships to measure and display wind direction and speed during navigation as recommended in accordance with Chapter 5, Regulation 5 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), as amended in 1974. It specifies the requirements for the type, composition, function, performance and test method of wind vanes and anemometers (referred to as “wind vanes and anemometers”). This standard does not apply to wind vanes and anemometers used for meteorological observation or scientific measurement and observation purposes.
