This standard specifies the required performance of materials for vulcanized rubber seals used in the following environments:a) cold drinking water supply (up to 50°C);b) drainage, sewage and stormwater systems (continuous up to 45°C) flow and intermittent flow up to 95°C) The designations for specified seals are defined according to type, application and requirements (see Table 3). In addition, general requirements for finished joint seals are given and the performance of pipe joints is determined by the seal material. Taking into account that it is a function of the properties of the seal, the geometry of the seal and the design of the pipe joint, additional requirements for special applications are specified in the relevant product standards. This standard covers iron, steel, clay, fiber cement, concrete, reinforced concrete and plastics. It is applicable to joint seals used in all types of piping, including glass-reinforced plastics. This standard is applicable to elastic parts of composite material seals or non-composite material seals. For composite seals for materials in the hardness range 76 to 95 IRHD, the requirements for elongation at break, permanent compression set and stress relief apply only when the sealing function of the material or long-term stability of the seal is required. Joint seals that contain air bubbles by design are also included in the scope of this standard.
