This standard, a technical report, provides guidance on the planning and design, preparation and execution of laser displays and performances using high-power lasers. Laser power for effective theatrical or artistic displays in large spaces such as theaters, stadiums or building sites is large enough to pose a significant accidental exposure risk, even if human exposure is very brief. For that reason, subclause 4.1.5 of IEC/TR 60825-14 states that only laser products rated Class 1, Class 2 or visible beam Class 3R shall be used for exhibition, display or entertainment purposes in unsupervised situations. It is clearly stated. Other classes of laser products should only be permitted under carefully controlled conditions and under the control of an experienced operator. The guidelines proposed in this technical report do not cover the display or performance of scientific, medical or industrial laser products. However, many of the principles in this guidance may be related. These guidelines provide recommendations for the safety of laser displays or performances that may be exhibitions, art exhibits, advertising or optical sculptures or museum collections. Lasers may be used in a domestic environment or by persons who cannot be expected to have an appropriate level of training. The product must be Class 1, Class 2 or visible beam Class 3R. Therefore, such devices are outside the scope of this Directive.
