This standard specifies the polarization state for continuous-light laser beams and, where possible, methods for determining the degree of polarization. This standard can also be applied to repetitively pulsed lasers, provided that the electric field vector deflection does not change from pulse to pulse. This standard (in whole or in part) also specifies a method for determining the orientation of the plane of oscillation for the case of linearly polarized laser beams. . Unless otherwise specified, laser radiation is quasi-monochromatic and is considered sufficiently stable for measurement purposes.
