This standard specifies the special safety requirements for Mast Raising Work Platforms (hereinafter referred to as MCWPs), which are temporarily installed, operated manually or by power, and are designed to be used by one or more people performing the work. This standard also applies to permanently installed MCWPs. This standard is applicable to mobile work platforms that are raised by a drive system and guided by their supporting masts, where the masts are subject to transverse restraints from a separate support structure. May or may not be required. This standard is applicable to any combination of the following alternatives:
——One or more masts - Masts tethered or untethered - Masts of fixed or variable length - Vertical or Masts inclined between 0° and 30° to the vertical - Standing or suspended masts - Movable or non-movable bases (chassis or base frame) - Manually or power-operated hoisting - Towed or self-powered ground movements other than road traffic law requirements - Powered by electric, pneumatic or hydraulic motors or internal combustion engines. This standard recognizes the hazards that occur during various stages of the life of such equipment and describes how to eliminate or reduce these hazards and ensure safe operation.
